FUNKY DEBOB was founded during late high school years in 1988. Bandleader Rico Germanus was stunned while he was listening to the radio
hearing his first true funk track from Tower of Power, "You got to Funkifize". He was paralysed by the music and decided to became an addict.
A "Teutonic" Funkband was born and throughout the band a keen collection of funk and soul music started. The influence reached from
James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Parliament, Ohio Players,Peter Herbolzheimer, Klaus Doldinger, to Norman Connors, Rick James, Midnight Star,
One Way, Kenny Burke, as well as Tom Browne, Mandrill and many more to name just a few. Funky Debob never tried to copy what its best at its original.
However, it is with no doubt easy to hear where they are coming from while simultaneously they have managed to create their very own and special sound.
In the mid 90's FDB had plenty of gigs touring throughout Europe especially Germany, Italy and Denmark. In 1998 Funky Debob
made a superb 2 hours performance during the popcomm in cologne at the Gloria. This performance was live broadcasted by VIVA2.
Unfortunately, during the recording of their second album the band decided to separate, because they felt that there is no market for their music.
Rico Germanus moved to the UK and FunkyDebob was no more. After his return to Germany the band reunified to get on the big foot again,
keep'n da funk alive to create the most beautiful thing on earth: music. Spread out your love babybaba!
